The original Black Market review was Edge Hill university’s first literary journal, founded in 2009 by creative writing students with the support of former senior lecturer Daniele Pantano. The journal had the goal of providing students with editorial and critical experience, and building links with creative writers in the UK and overseas. The first incarnation of the Review was discontinued after a handful of issues, but was later revived in 2016 by Edge Hill’s Luke Thurogood and his team of student editors as Black Market Re-View. The re-vamped and re-launched journal has been managed entirely by students ever since, putting out two issues every academic year. We’ve recently changed our submission policy so that 50% of the work we feature comes from Edge Hill students
